Howdaaay. Another Friday is here. Friday, November 8th, 2019. I hope your week has gone well.
Austin, TX was in the spotlight a little bit last night. Jimmy Fallon did his late night show from the campus of UT. It was also the first night of this year's Levitation "festival" (also in Austin). I put festival in parenthesis because to me a true festival is one that is located in the same proximity. You walk around to the different stages. You don't have to drive or go to different venues to see different acts. The few years that the festival was hosted on Carson Creek Ranch... That was absolutely magical. It was a lot of people, but it wasn't ACL type crowded. It was just big enough to be the perfect size. I guess the organizers of the festival had a little falling out with Travis County so they moved it across several venues (Stubb's, Mohawk, etc). I'll never forget some of those Levitation moments. 4-5 years ago now.
It sometimes feels like a different, past life.
Some of my favorite moments in my entire life have happened in Austin, TX. I'm grateful to have experienced them. From taking my first road trip in 2009 with a best friend. We went to attend Fun Fun Fun Fest (rip). It rained all weekend. It was cold and wet, but we saw Crystal Castles, of Montreal, Atlas Sound, BROADCAST (rip Trish Keenan). It was the first festival I went to.
Fast forward to today... Tommy Want Wingy, Pinballz, Summermoon, Levitation, Fun Fun Fun Fest again in 2012, 6th Street, the list goes on. Austin has a very special place in my heart.
Speaking of special places and special things... I think this week's Playlist Friday is really good. I've been listening to a few of the songs on repeat the last few days. This Alex Lustig/Emilie Kahn track off the get go is something. Reminds me of Grimes and Clairo. Vibes.
Until Monday... thanks for checking out the blog. Have a good weekend.
