Playlist Friday

Playlist Friday

Hello! It's Friday, April 29th, 2022. The last Friday of April. Hope your week has gone well.

This week's playlist kicks off w Atalhos & The Holydrug Couple. Both are South American duos. The track is Atalhos' - "Mesmo Coração" remixed by Holydrug Couple.

It had been a long while since I listened to The Holydrug Couple before this week, but I went back and re-listened to a bit of their discog. Their 2015 album Moonlust is still pretty dang good. I wouldn't call it a masterpiece, but it's very easy music to get sunk into. They just released a track called "Coca Cola Blues". Off the first couple listens I didn't love it. It might be a grower.

The playlist ends w Astrobrite's - "radiofriendly". One of my fav tracks of all time tbh. It was a little challenging finding 5 songs this week. Astrobrite is a band I can listen to once every year or two and quickly be reminded "damn this track/s still sound really good". I remember first listening to Astrobrite in the late 2000s. It was Astrobrite & A Place to Bury Strangers.

I had seen A Place to Bury Strangers open for NIN in 2008-2009ish and at first I was like "what is this terrible music. and why all this strobe light?".

Then I began checking out their music more in depth as time went on. That was really my first real introduction to shoegazish, noise-ish rock. I still remember that NIN tour. Trent had 4 openers on that tour for different stretches. Deerhunter had a stretch, Crystal Castles had a stretch, A Place to Bury Strangers had a stretch and I can't remember who the fourth band was.

I'm rambling now.

I knew who Deerhunter was back then, but definitely not to the point to how I feel about the band now. But alas the Texas dates had APTBS. 13-14 years ago now.

It definitely feels that long. Several lifetimes ago.

Anyways. Back to Playlist Friday.

Pynch, Hot Garbage & Ranma Entero fill out this week's playlist.

Have a listen if you so wish. Thanks for reading.
