Howdaaay. It's Friday, October 8th, 2021. Hope your week has gone well.
1) This week's playlist. I do think it's a little better than last week's playlist. Doing this every single week sometimes some weeks will be better than others. Some weeks it's hard finding 5 songs I didn't know before that I actually like. The first track on this week's playlist actually was released last night. I was listening to music last night trying to finish off the playlist for today. Heard the track. Liked it. Went to their Spotify and sure enough. Brand new track. Literally.
I remember when I used to listen to the radio. I would have it on the Buzz or something ("alternative" rock station in Houston for any out of towners reading this). They would play like a song over a year old, but they led into it w "Hot new track on the Buzz". I was driving home the other night. And I put it on the Buzz. And Staind's "Outside" was playing. And I was like "this is beautiful stuff". You can go 10 years without listening to the station and you can come back like nothing has happened.
That night was interesting because I was at a bowling alley in Conroe, Texas. The soundtrack they were playing in that bowling alley was straight out of 2001-2005. And yes. If you're reading this and you're remotely familiar with anything Conroe/Montgomery/Willis/Cut and Shoot, Huntsville. You could name the bands on the playlist right now without me telling me you them.
Nickelback, Creed, Staind, Hoobastank, Linkin Park, Sum 41, Hinder...
The guy bowling the lane over from my friend and I had an American sleeve on w an Eagle on it. The night couldn't get anymore stereotypical Conroe if it tried. I thought about saying something like "that's for you, Lina Hidalgo! amen queen" after I knocked down a spare or a strike (which didn't happen v often), but I might've been putting my life in danger.
Back to this week's playlist. It's more rock oriented than last weeks playlist. The third song is "Daisy" by Television Blonde. This song should be labeled "Alex G" as the genre. I've put several songs on the playlist the last year that have a strong Alex G sound, but this one may be the closest to sounding identical. I remember the last few artists/bands I've put that had Alex G influences... Wyatt Smith, 8BIT WIZRD, PACKS, etc. I don't hate it. I like Alex G. Just noting the strong similarities.
Alex G will be my first concert in 2 1/2 years next month. TV Girl/Jordana was a mess. I bought tickets off Instagram (don't do that), they turned out to be fake, I found real ones, but then day of I decided not to go so I gave them away. Japanese Breakfast is on Halloween weekend and I'm not completely sure what I'm doing Halloween weekend. But Alex G.... Tuesday, November 9th. I'll for sure be there.
I believe Chvrches is playing the lawn that same night @ White Oak. So that area will be crowded. I do have a crush on Lauren Mayberry, but I'll be enjoying Alex G inside. I've been in certain crowds a bit the last year, but yeah 2 1/2 years since a concert. Should be fun.
I couldn't sleep the other night and apparently the Table Tennis World Finals are coming to Houston next month as well. I got way too deep in a table tennis rabbit hole. I learned that the finals have been happening since 1926, but this is the first year they're happening in the States. And for whatever reason they chose Houston. Then I started watching table tennis highlights. I read that this Ma Long is the best men's player. So I watched some Ma Long highlights on YouTube.
Then I looked up table tennis table prices on Amazon. I got too deep.
I'll probably go to a day of the event next month. It's like a week long event during Thanksgiving week. It is quite impressive though. The way they hit that lil ball. Super fast too. The hand eye coordination is incredible. I respect their skills. More bars/clubs/restaurants/etc should have table tennis tables. I'm not calling it "ping pong" because I read this is very derogatory to the serious players. And as a lifelong fan of 3 days... so do I tbh. I'm a purist of the sport. Two words: Ma Long.
Anyways. I don't know what this week's post was. Don't expect a longer Playlist Friday post ever again :,. Have a listen to the playlist if you so wish. Hope you have a good weekend.
