Hello out there in internet land. It's Friday, June 18, 2021. Hope your week has gone well. A little bit better than mine has. I'm still here though. JakeRambles.com. Bless.
This week on the playlist I went old school. I went with 5 songs out of the thousands that I've enjoyed at various points in my life dating back to 1998. I remember my Dad (speaking of Father's Day this weekend) having to go to work in the Summer when I was like 8 or 9 and I would put on MTV music videos after he left because I had the house to myself. And they would play Korn a lot. I was like... "this is some good crazy demon stuff". I thought Jonathan Davis was this cool, mysterious singer.
I know Korn & Staind are coming to the greater Houston area in September. I don't think I'll go that one.
I could see myself w a margarita during Staind's set though...
it's beeen awhilleeeeee since i could hold my head up high
I'm listening to Staind as I type this and I kind of want to go to this concert now. I'm feeling a lot of weird emotion right now. I'll for sure be at Japanese Breakfast, Alex G and possibly Thundercat in the Fall. White Oak in Houston is absolutely bopping the second half of this year though. Looking at their calendar rn (as I'm still listening to Staind). Jason Mraz lol, Cypress Hill & Atmosphere, Tune-Yards w Salami Rose Joe Louis (actually had her on a Playlist Friday before), The Mountain Goats, Simple Plan & New Found Glory heh heh, Deftones & Gojira, Glass Animals, Big Thief, Dinosaur Jr., The Front Bottoms, Dan Deacon, Tennis (I forgot they were coming), Soccer Mommy, Chvrches, The Garden, Lomelda...
"Did you go down and just list most of the White Oa-" yes I did. One band I think about a lot is Deerhunter. No peep from them during the entire year last year. Bradley use to put up weekly playlists (kinda like I do on this blog), but with really obscure music. I found out about quite a few artists I had never knew about that way. Some artists dating back to the 50s-70s. I really miss him doing that. I hope everyone in the band is doing alright. I've met some of the coolest people at Deerhunter shows. They're definitely a "type". And I fit into that "type". And I believe that "type" is kinda nerdy, awkward, quiet, outsidish vibe.
I remember walking up to White Oak in 2019 when they last came to Houston and there were like 4 people waiting outside (also by themselves). One woman was reading a book, one guy was listening to music, one guy had a Beach House shirt on and another guy was doing his homework or jotting something down in a notebook. I was like "these are my people". I talked to Beach House shirt guy quite a bit. I remember I ordered two Long Island Iced teas for like $35, but by the second one I was like "just take my money you feel me?" to the bartender. I was pretty lit by that point. I'm a lightweight.
This Playlist Friday was a bit all over the place. It's been awhile since I've been on a ramble session of sorts. The Captain Murphy song in the playlist is not on Spotify so it's not on the blog's Spotify playlist (obviously). Because there's literally over 100 samples in it. It'd be like trying to walk through a metal detector with 10 giant gold chains on. Anyways have a listen if you shall wish.
I appreciate you reading.
