It's been a pretty soaked filled Father's day across the greater Houston area. I decided to put on a Garbage (the band) Spotify playlist tonight. I remember hearing "Only Happy When It Rains" in the mid to late 90s on the radio as a kid. Back then the alternative station in Houston was still The Buzz. It use to be 107FM something back then. I can't remember if it was 107.1 or 107.5. Heck I can't 100% remember if it was even 107... I just remember it being over 105 (I think). This is riveting blog material at the moment...
I was a kid back then. 7 or 8 years old. I remember really enjoying that station. I would put a blank cassette in the stereo and record the likes of Garbage and No Doubt off that station. I don't know if Garbage is 100% appropriate for a 7 or 8 year old. Not all of their old songs at least, but here I was recording a couple of their songs off the radio. I thought Shirley...
My power just flickered and turned off my computer. That's the worst. It's still raining outside as I type this. It's the worst because the power goes out for 1 second, but it takes several minutes to re-start everything. I actually have time to type up a post on this blog and Mother Nature is like.... "we'll see". Well good thing my post was auto saved and I'm back in here. What up, Mother Nature?
Anyways. Let's see where I was. Yes. I thought Shirley Manson and Gwen Stefani were some badass, cutting edge women as a 8 year old. They still are. But they really made their mark in the 90s. They made me love the radio as a kid. I'm sure The Buzz played some crap on their station in the late 90s. I can't remember to be honest. Sometimes you look back on things with a childhood fondness, but it would be hard for them to be as bad as they are now. iHeart owns a ton of the radio landscape out there now... and a lot of radio stations are literally just 10-20 songs deep it feels like on a daily basis.
You get your Metallica, Imagine Dragons, Bush, Nirvana, 21 Pilots on The Buzz... oh can't forget about Cage The Elephant. I usually listen to a couple sports podcasts in the mornings and then it's basically Spotify the rest of the day. It's hard to beat Spotify. Sometimes I'll just listen to the blog's playlist or I'll put it on a artist's radio station and work to that. I've found some pretty great bands that way. Sometimes I discover songs that I later put on a Playlist Friday.
I'm also half-stress writing tonight. I already did my stress eating for the night. For now. I have to go to the dentist again this week. So not looking forward to that. I put little donuts into cookies and cream ice cream tonight. It was pretty good actually. You're probably saying... "you're eating donut infused cookies and cream ice cream the same week you're going to the dentist?". Yes I am. Save your judgment.
I don't know what else to type at the moment. Lots of thoughts in my mind currently. From the dentist to Gwen Stefani to how good Gwen Stefani still looks to how I would still date her to mistakes I've made in the past to the sweet iced tea I'm about to drink after I finish typing this post. The usual.
Thank you for reading. Hope you have a good one.
